A Mississippi law firm is making Halloween safer for children through its yearly statewide awareness program. The team from Richard Schwartz & Associates visited Hawkins Elementary School this week, continuing their mission to educate young students about Halloween safety while spreading fun and awareness.

Spreading Safety Awareness Across Mississippi

The firm’s annual initiative is focused on ensuring kids understand how to stay safe while trick-or-treating. During their visit to Hawkins Elementary, the students enjoyed an engaging session featuring McGruff the Crime Dog, who greeted them with hugs and high-fives.

Each student also received a free reflective Halloween candy bag filled with useful safety tips. These bright bags not only help kids be more visible at night but also remind families of crucial precautions for the spooky evening.

A Statewide Educational Tour

According to Patrick Wooten, CEO and Partner at Richard Schwartz & Associates, the safety tour covers several cities across Mississippi.

“We’ll reach seven schools this year—from Tupelo down to Hattiesburg, as well as Columbus and Meridian,” Wooten explained. “That’s nearly 3,000 students we get to talk to this year.”

The initiative combines community engagement with practical education, emphasizing how children can safely enjoy Halloween fun while parents stay informed about protective steps.

Teachers Applaud the Effort

Hawkins Elementary Principal Taneka Lett expressed appreciation for the event, noting how the program reinforces what children learn at home.

“We appreciate the tips they share about what’s safe and what’s not in neighborhoods,” she said. “It’s also important that parents check the candy before their children eat it.”

These reminders, though simple, play a vital role in preventing accidents or health risks during the festive night.

A Tradition of Safety Education

This marks the 13th consecutive year of the firm’s Halloween safety campaign. Over the years, Richard Schwartz & Associates has partnered with schools, police departments, and community leaders to promote child safety awareness in Mississippi. The program continues to grow, inspiring both parents and students to make Halloween a night of joy rather than danger.
