In South Mississippi, the Coast Transit Authority (CTA) is taking major steps to transform its bus-stop experience. Soon, passengers using any of the CTA routes will begin to notice newly designed signage at bus stops — changes aimed at enhancing functionality and visual appeal.
Modernizing the Bus Stop System
CTA is unveiling a fresh set of bus stop signs across the region to modernize its transit system and elevate the experience for riders. These upgraded signs come with a blend of practical and user-friendly features.
Key Features of the New Signs
- The signage includes color-coded routes, making it easier to identify which bus goes where.
- Each sign also features coastal mascots, adding a friendly and unique visual identity.
- Every stop will display a distinct Stop ID — riders can provide this number when contacting dispatch, which helps identify their exact location and anticipate the next bus arrival.
Partnership and Design
CTA collaborated with the Ocean Springs-based firm Christie Fountain Advertising to bring this signage project to life. The design firm created signs that are not only highly functional but also full of character, making them engaging for passengers.
Leadership and Vision
At the forefront of this initiative is CTA’s Executive Director, Ninette Barrios, who championed the redesign as part of a broader effort to refresh the agency’s identity and introduce more rider-friendly features. “The signs right now are very practical,” Barrios noted, “but we wanted to put a little more information in there and make it just a warmer, happier and inviting sign.”
Implementation Timeline
The rollout begins on October 28, starting with the Pass Road Route 34. After this initial launch, crews will roll out the updated signage to other routes across the coast.
