After a short fall break, the Clarion Ledger Student of the Week poll is back to spotlight exceptional high school students from the Jackson Metro area. This popular feature honors students who excel not just in academics, but also in leadership, arts, sports, and community service.

The new round of nominees reflects the incredible talent and dedication within local schools. Readers are invited to vote online for their favorite student. The poll remains open until Thursday, October 16 at noon, and the winner will be revealed on Friday morning online and in Sunday’s print edition.

Meet This Week’s Outstanding Nominees

Tai’Meria Smith — Provine High School

Tai’Meria Smith, a senior at Provine High School, proudly serves as “Miss Senior” for the 2025–2026 school year. She is part of the school’s Royal Court and Student Council, and leads as captain of the Essence of Provine Drill Team. Known for her leadership and strong moral values, Smith aims to attend the University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a nursing degree. Her favorite quote — “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken” by Oscar Wilde — reflects her confidence and individuality.

Taylor Frazier — Forest Hill High School

Taylor Frazier is a bright and determined scholar at Forest Hill High School. Always radiating positivity and motivation, Frazier inspires those around her while maintaining excellent academic performance. Her focus and discipline make her a role model for her peers, showing that commitment and attitude go hand in hand with success.

Zuri Wheaton — Murrah High School

Zuri Wheaton, a junior at Murrah High School, stands out as both a researcher and musician. Through the Base Pair program, she spends afternoons at UMMC conducting scientific research alongside her mentor. Academically gifted, she takes multiple AP courses and participates in the Wells APAC music program, focusing on the cello. She’s also involved in Speech and Debate, contributes to Murrah’s literary magazine “The Pleiades,” and plays on the soccer team. Loved by teachers and classmates, Wheaton perfectly embodies the Murrah scholar spirit.

Miyonna Bush — Canton High School

At Canton High School, Miyonna Bush is known for her academic excellence and athletic achievement. A dedicated honor student, she actively competes on both the basketball and volleyball teams. Her persistence and teamwork mirror her academic discipline, proving her to be a well-rounded student committed to both learning and sportsmanship.
