Bruce and Julie Martin, long-time supporters of Mississippi State University (MSU), have once again demonstrated their generosity with a remarkable $1 million donation. This contribution will fund the construction of the new Billy W. Howard Sr. Indoor Practice Facility and the renovation of the Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex, marking a major step forward for MSU Athletics.

Athletic Department’s Response

Zac Selmon, MSU’s Director of Athletics, expressed deep gratitude to the Martins for their continued dedication.

“Their unwavering support symbolizes true partnership in our journey to elevate Mississippi State Athletics,” Selmon shared.

This investment supports MSU’s growing ambitions to stay competitive in the evolving world of college sports.

A Lifelong Connection to Mississippi State

Bruce Martin’s Career and Service

A native of Meridian, Mississippi, Bruce Martin earned his finance and insurance degree from MSU. He began his professional journey with Meyer & Rosenbaum, Inc. in 1977, eventually becoming its president and sole owner in 2005.

Beyond his business success, Bruce has shown a strong commitment to public service and education. He served 12 years on the Mississippi Community College Board and later joined the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) in 2018. His leadership as IHL president from 2024 to 2025 underscores his influence in shaping Mississippi’s education landscape.

Additionally, Bruce has contributed to several boards, including the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and the Bulldog Club, reinforcing his long-standing support for MSU.

Julie Martin: The Artist Behind the Vision

Her Artistic Journey

Julie Martin is a celebrated fine artist known for her classical realism style, specializing in portraiture and the human figure. She honed her craft at The Aristides Atelier, studying under renowned artists Juliette Aristides, Stephen Bauman, and Joshua Langstaff.

Her prior experience as a registered nurse enriches her art, giving her a deep understanding of anatomy, gesture, and expression. Each piece reflects both technical mastery and emotional connection, blending discipline, beauty, and humanity.

Julie’s recent work, “Game Day Glory – Of Roar and Reverence,” now showcased at The Mill in Starkville, celebrates the spirit, loyalty, and strength that define Mississippi State.

A Family Deeply Rooted in Bulldog Tradition

Dak: MSU’s Beloved Mascot

Among their many contributions, the Martins also share a special bond with the MSU community through Dak, the university’s live mascot formally known as Bully XXII. Dak took on the role in April 2023, continuing the proud Bulldog legacy.

Bruce and Julie note that giving back—whether by sharing Dak or financially supporting MSU’s progress—is part of their lifelong mission.

“Mississippi State and its people mean everything to us,” they said.
