MERIDIAN, Miss. – Meridian High School is gearing up for its homecoming celebration this weekend, promising excitement on and off the football field. The Wildcats will face the Pearl Pirates this Friday at 7 p.m., marking the highlight of the weekend’s events.
However, it’s not just the players preparing—security measures are also being strengthened to ensure a safe environment for all attendees.
Increased Security for the Big Weekend
The Meridian Public School District (MPSD) is implementing heightened safety protocols to protect everyone during the homecoming festivities. Chief of Police Cornelius Parks emphasized that extra personnel will be on hand throughout the weekend.
“All hands are on deck this weekend. For the homecoming parade tomorrow evening, the Meridian Police Department (MPD) will assist with traffic control, as they have in previous years. We greatly value the city’s support, which allows us to manage the expected crowds along the parade route,” Parks said.
This year, five additional officers will join the usual 7–10 MPSD officers. In addition, a private security team from Hattiesburg will provide supplementary support.
